SUMMARY

A Tony Award-nominated and internationally award-winning theatre educator, administrator, director, Equity actor, and practitioner, Sean Elias has planned and executed instructional programs in all areas of the performing arts, directed and performed in numerous award-winning professional and educational theatrical productions, and developed ancillary educational opportunities. In the classroom, Sean Elias emphasizes project-based, experiential, and interdisciplinary learning, expanding the learner’s capacity to think critically and solve problems creatively. With a background in theatre education for community development, Sean Elias’ lessons promote an understanding of both craft and socio-political context in hopes of increasing the learner’s civic engagement. Sean passionately advocates in the service of the learner’s experience, believes strongly in the integration of media and technology in the classroom, and measures successes in student achievement and personal connection. Sean firmly believes that the art of educational drama encourages students to express their thoughts in intimate new ways while analyzing and discovering the environment around them.

Arts education isn’t something we add on after we’ve achieved other priorities, like raising test scores and getting kids into college. It’s actually critical for achieving those priorities in the first place.
